Introduction
If you’re looking for a nice, budget monitor with vibrant colors and a beautiful border-less design, look no further and meet the LG 23MP68VQ. Although a budget monitor, it delivers accurate and consistent colors thanks to the IPS panel that covers over 99% of the sRGB color space. Additionally, it offers an amazing gaming experience due to the FreeSync capability, quick response time, and exclusive gaming features. There’s no doubt that this monitor is well worth its cost, if not more.

Specifications

IPS Panel
16:9 Aspect Ratio
75Hz
5ms Response Time
Ports: HDMI, VGA, DVI, Headphones Jack

Performance
The moment you connect and turn on the LG 23MP68VQ screen, you’ll be able to enjoy the high-quality picture with vivid colors. The monitor is factory calibrated so you won’t have to tweak the settings yourself, although, you have the ability to do so with the six-axis color settings in the OSD menu. As the monitor covers over 99% of the sRGB color space, it is ideal for the aspiring beginner-level to semi-professional designers and photographers who need a monitor for color-critical work.

Besides providing you with the precise colors, the IPS panel also ensures excellent viewing angles of 178 degrees both horizontal and vertical, allowing you to enjoy the pristine picture quality no matter the angle you’re looking at the screen. Moreover, it offers a quick 5ms response time which isn’t as quick as TN panels can produce but will still eliminate ghosting of fast moving objects in everyday use and most of the fast-paced video games.

The most interesting feature of the LG 23MP68VQ monitor, however, is the AMD FreeSync which is usually not available in budget-level monitors. This feature allows you to connect your compatible AMD graphics card, series R7 260 and up, to your monitor through the HDMI port. Once you do that and enable the FreeSync option in the OSD settings, your GPU and monitor will have synchronized refreshed rates which will eliminate screen tearing, stuttering, and reduce input lag. The dynamic range of the FreeSync on this monitor is 40 – 75Hz / FPS (Frames per Second).

Features
In order to further improve the gaming experience, the LG 23MP68VQ PC display features the Black Stabilizer mode. This feature increases the visibility in very dark games by brightening and sharpening up the gloomy objects in too dark areas. By default, it is set to 50 and to 70 in the Game Mode preset, however, it can be increased up to 100 if you play really dark video games such as the Diablo III.
Besides the Game preset, the LG 23MP68VQ PC monitor also provides two Reader modes, Photo, Cinema, Color Weakness, and the Custom mode. The reader modes offer two different variations of picture settings with reduced flicker level and low blue light that are ideal for nighttime reading. The Color Weakness mode is specifically designed for those who cannot distinguish certain color ranges.
The OSD menu is very user-friendly and easily navigated with the OSD joystick that is placed underneath the screen. By pressing it once, you gain a little shortcut menu which allows you to swap between pre-calibrated presets, enter the OSD menu, change input source, and turn off the monitor. In the OSD menu, you can adjust brightness, contrast, and select different modes of the smart saving.

Under the Picture settings, you can adjust the sharpness, three different response time speeds, FreeSync, and black stabilizer features. Furthermore, you can select three different gamma levels, three different color temperature settings, and adjust the RGB color levels as well as hue and saturation of magenta, cyan, and yellow colors. Lastly, you can choose to auto configure and reset the settings.

All of these settings can also be adjusted in the On-Screen applications that you get on the CD with the monitor. In this application, you can adjust your preferred settings by simply using your mouse cursor. Furthermore, you can assign certain picture modes to certain applications, so that whenever you enter a certain video game, the Game picture mode will automatically apply. In addition, the LG 23MP68VQ offers the Screen Split feature which allows you to split your screen into 10 different layouts of split screen, including the Picture in Picture mode.

Design

As you can see in the picture, the LG 23MP68VQ monitor boasts a rather slim design with a modern but elegant look. The bezel is ultra-thin as well, although the display isn’t edge-to-edge but has a 5mm black border around the screen which still looks amazing nonetheless. The screen is covered with a 3H anti-glare coating which eliminates the sunlight reflection. However, the cabinet of the monitor is glossy black. The base of the monitor is detachable which is ideal for a wall mount as it’s also VESA mount compatible. The only feature that the LG 23MP68VQ really lacks is the ability for height adjustment as when it comes to the ergonomics, it can only be tilted for 17 degrees.

Connectivity
As far as connectivity is concerned, the LG 23MP68VQ monitor features a VGA, DVI-D, and an HDMI port. The MP68 series monitors were one of the first to feature FreeSync over the HDMI port, although only a VGA cable is provided with the purchase. All the ports, including the headphones jack, face upward making for more convenient and easier cable connection. The monitor also features a cable holder plastic for a more tidier deskspace.

Price
The price is certainly the most appealing aspect of this monitor. At the time of writing it is available for around $160. At that price point, there are no other monitors with similar specifications available which also offer the adaptive sync technology and an ultra-thin design. The low cost and thin bezel design make for an excellent budget multi-display setup as well. This monitor is also available in other sizes including 21.5-inch, 23.8-inch, and 27-inch, however, the price/performance is the most cost efficient with a 23-inch version.

Conclusion
The LG 23MP68VQ has something to offer to its every potential user on a budget; FreeSync, quick response time, and exclusive gaming features for gamers and accurate colors that cover over 99% sRGB color space and the Screen Split feature for the professional designers, photographers, and alike. To top it all, it features a beautiful borderless design that will appeal to everyone, especially at this price point.

AOC AGON AG322QCX: Curved 1440p FreeSync Gaming Monitor

AOC has just released some new monitors and the AOC AGON AG322QCX is one of them. It’s an incredible 31.5-inch gaming monitor that features some amazing features for gamers.

What you’ll notice first is the amazing design of this new gaming monitor. It has something called a “three-side” frameless design and it’s also curved as well. All of this helps to make the gameplay much more immersive than playing on a flat gaming monitor. The curvature is specified at 1800m, which is the most we have seen in the AOC AGON gaming monitor series.
As far as resolution goes, the AOC AGON AG322QCX supports a 2560×1440 resolution (1440p, WQHD) and it has a VA panel, which provides excellent black levels and contrast ratio. Notice that these are widescreen monitors (16:9) and not UltraWide (21:9), which is something that’s becoming increasingly popular nowadays.
The refresh rate of the AOC AGON AG322QX monitor is 144Hz and it supports AMD Freesync, meaning that you will not notice screen tearing with this feature enabled, and the high refresh rate will ensure that you get liquid-fluid images.

Other features you will find in this gaming monitor include “Low Input Lag” mode, which will minimize the input lag and is especially important for competitive FPS players. There’s also the “Shadow Control” mode, which lightens up dark areas in games, so you are able to see those pesky snipers camping in the dark.

You will also get a carrying handle, a holder for your headset, LED lights (red, green or blue) and a fully ergonomic stand will pivot, tilt, swivel and height adjustment support.

The connectivity consists of two HDMI ports, two DisplayPorts and a good old VGA connector. Furthermore, you will find two USB 3.0 ports as well.

The AOC AGON AG322QCX will be released in May 2017 and will cost around 650 USD. You can buy it at online retailers such as Newegg and Amazon.

AOC AGON AG271QG Review: 165Hz G-SYNC Gaming Monitor

Introduction
The AOC AGON AG271QG delivers an amazing gaming experience thanks to its whopping 165Hz refresh rate, rapid 4ms response time, and Nvidia G-Sync technology. Not only do video games run buttery smooth on this gaming monitor, they look amazing too; the true 8-bit IPS panel with 100% sRGB color space coverage ensures accurate and vibrant colors, producing high-quality and crisp 1440p pictures. Moreover, unlike most gaming monitors, the AOC AG271QG features a modern but elegant design without the cartoonish and flashy gamer logos and gimmicks.

Specifications
27-inch Screen
2560×1440 Resolution
IPS Panel
16:9 Aspect Ratio
165Hz
4ms Response Time
Nvidia G-Sync
Ports: DisplayPort 1.2a, HDMI 1.4
Other Ports: 4x USB 3.0, Microphone and Headphones Jack
Built-in Speakers: 2x3W
Brightness: 350cd/m2
Contrast: 1,000:1
Pixel Pitch: 0.233mm
Performance
The AOC AGON AG271QG possesses all the key features one demanding player might desire, from responsive gameplay to rich and vivid details. The IPS panel of this gaming monitor delivers consistent and precise colors unachievable by other panels, making this monitor also adequate for beginner-level designing. Additionally, with this panel, you will have impeccable viewing angles of 178 degrees both horizontal and vertical, which will allow you to enjoy a flawless image quality no matter at which angle you’re looking at the screen.
The 165Hz refresh rate along the quick 4ms response time ensures smooth and fluid gameplay experience. You won’t be able to notice any ghosting and blurring of fast moving objects. This will also give you the edge over your opponents in fast-paced FPS video games as you’ll be able to spot your enemies faster and shoot ’em down before they even realize what hit them! Although TN panel monitors can have a quicker response time at 1ms, the IPS panel is superior when it comes to color quality and viewing angles. However, with IPS panel monitors, you will notice slight backlight bleeding at the edges of the screen, but it’s only visible on very dark backgrounds, so it’s neglectable.
When it comes to the performance of the AOC AGON AG271QG, the Nvidia G-sync technology makes gameplay as smooth as possible, that is if you have a compatible Nvidia graphics card connected through the DisplayPort. Once you enable the G-Sync feature, the refresh rate between your graphics card’s GPU and the monitor will become synchronized. As a result, you won’t experience any screen stuttering and tearing in the 30Hz – 165Hz range; moreover, the input lag is decreased.

Features
There are five OSD buttons placed at the bottom right bezel. When not in the OSD menu, these buttons can be used as shortcuts for different commands. The first one allows you to swap between the input source. Next, you can adjust the volume of the built-in speakers, enable and disable the Ultra Low Motion Blur feature, open the OSD menu, and the last one is the power button. The ULMB feature is included with the Nvidia G-Sync, although it cannot be used at the same time as the G-Sync it is useful if you experience blurring of fast moving objects in video games.

Under the luminance settings in the OSD menu, you will be able to adjust common parameters such as contrast, brightness, and three levels of gamma setting. The Game Color option allows you to increase color saturation between 0 and 200, 100 being the default. At 0, the image becomes black and white, while at 200 colors become oversaturated and lose on shade variety. It’s an interesting feature to play around with nonetheless.

The Shadow Control feature is exceptionally useful in very dark video games. It increases the visibility in the dark parts of the games by brightening up the black levels allowing you to clearly see your enemies lurking in the dark. The Overdrive feature provides you with the ability to set five different levels for the response time speed including Off, Weak, Light, Medium, and Strong.

Under the Color Settings, you can set five different Color Temperature modes including Warm, Normal, Cool, sRGB, and User in which you can manually configure red, green, and blue color levels. Additionally, you can increase or decrease the levels of the blue light which is very useful when you wish to relax over an e-book at night.

Design

The design of the AOC AGON AG271QG features a matte-black cabinet with brushed texture at the bottom bezel while the screen is covered with a light matte coating to prevent sunlight reflection. The metallic base provides stability and lots of ergonomic functionalities including height adjustment by 130mm, swivel ability to the left and right by 20 degrees, pivot function, and tilt by 25 degrees. The monitor is VESA mount compatible with 100mm x 100mm holes pattern. This gaming monitor is around 16.5mm thick and at the right side of it, you will find a headphone hanger where you can conveniently place your headphones when you’re not using them.

Connectivity
At the right side of the monitor, along with the headphones hanger, you will find a microphone jack, headphones jack, and two USB 3.0 ports. The yellow one supports fast charging. At the back of the monitor, there are two more USB 3.0 ports, one of which is upstream and needs to be connected to the PC. Other ports include an HDMI 1.4 and the DisplayPort 1.2a which supports the Nvidia G-Sync technology.

Conclusion
At the time of writing (February 2017), the AOC AGON AG271QG is available for $740 which is quite a reasonable price considering the impressive 165Hz refresh rate, Nvidia G-Sync technology, stunning image quality with vibrant and accurate colors of the true 8-bit IPS panel, many exclusive features, and a solid but elegant and versatile design. All these features make for an amazing gameplay performance worth every penny; if you’re on a tighter budget, you should check out the more affordable version of this monitor, the AOC AGON AG271QX. It’s almost $200 cheaper, but it has FreeSync instead of G-Sync, a bit lower refresh rate at 144Hz, and a TN panel instead of an IPS.

Philips 245C7QJSB Review: Borderless IPS Panel Monitor

Introduction
The Philips 245C7QJSB is one of the brand-new Philips monitors from the Moda Slim C-Line series. Its main weapon lies in its beautifully thin design and in its IPS panel that covers a wide range of the color gamut, up to 106.5% of the NTSC (CIE 1913) color space. This monitor will also be available as a 27-inch version and as a 32-inch once it’s released sometime in February 2017 for around $270. Until then, we’ll have a look at what it will offer and its specifications. It’s also known by the name Philips Moda 245C7QJSB.

Specifications
23.8 Inches Screen
1920×1080 Resolution
IPS Panel
16:9 Aspect Ratio
60Hz
5ms Response Time
Ports: VGA, HDMI, DisplayPort, Audio Line-Out
Brightness: 250cd/m2
Contrast: 1000:1
Pixel Pitch: 0.274 mm
Features
The Philips Moda 245C7QJSB will feature an IPS panel that will cover over 100% of the sRGB color space making it an ideal monitor for the professional designers, photographers, and alike. The picture quality won’t only appeal to the designers but to the everyday consumers as well, due to the numerous convenient feature that this sleek monitor will offer. The IPS panel also ensures the impeccable viewing angles of 178 degrees both horizontal and vertical as well as a quick response time of only 5ms for minimal ghosting of fast moving objects.

One of the most promising features of the Philips 245C7QJSB is the SmartImage. This feature will allow you to swap between several pre-calibrated presets according to your activity on the screen. These presets include Office, Photo, Movie, Game, Text, LowBlue Mode, and Economy. By setting one of these presets, you will be applying calibrated settings of the SmartContrast and SmartKolor features which can also be individually modified in the OSD settings.
SmartContrast feature analyzes the displayed content and adjusts the contrast and backlight intensity accordingly while the SmartKolor feature enhances color saturation and extends the visual color range for a superior color and image quality. This way, the Economy Mode, for instance, will provide you with just right amount of contrast for a good picture quality while saving on power. The LowBlue Mode decreases the amount of the harmful blue lights which will along the flicker-free screen allow you to watch movies, play games, or work for hours without straining your eyes.
The OSD joystick is placed behind the screen and can be used for easy navigation through the OSD menu. You can turn off the monitor by holding the joystick for 3 seconds, and turn it on by pressing it. While not in the OSD menu, the joystick can be used as a shortcut for adjusting the speakers volume, changing input selection, and swapping between the SmartImage picture presets.

In the OSD menu, you’ll be able to adjust all the standard picture settings such as the brightness, contrast, sharpness, five different gamma modes, swap between widescreen and 4:3 picture formats, and choose between two different temperature modes, 6500K and 9300K. Additionally, you can modify the SmartKolor, SmartTxt, SmartContrast features as well as configure color levels of the red, green, and blue colors and choose between four different speed levels for the response time.

Design

As you can see in the picture, the Philips 245C7QJSB features an ultra-thin design at only 5.2 millimeters. The black and gray colors along the glossy finish make for a modern look which is complemented by the borderless design. The bezel at the top and at the sides is only 2.5mm thick which is ideal for multi-display as the gap between the monitors will be minimal while the picture pops out. However, the way the ports are placed indicates that it’s not VESA mount compatible for wall or mounting arm installment. Furthermore, it can only be tilted by 25 degrees as far as ergonomics are concerned.

Connectivity
The Philips 245C7QJSB will feature a VGA, DisplayPort 1.2, and an HDMI port with the HDCP protection. Additionally, it will have an audio line-out port, but no USB ports. The DisplayPort 1.2 provides up to 10.8 Gbps data transfer and up to 15-meter cables while the HDMI with HDCP (High-bandwidth Digital Content Protection) prevents illegal audio and video content copying.

Price
The Philips 245C7QJSB will cost around $270 once it’s released sometime in February 2017. Although you could find slightly more affordable IPS monitors at this range, none of them feature such a sleek and thin design; moreover, this monitor boasts the ultra wide-color range that is unprecedented at this price point.

Conclusion
The Philips 245C7QJSB is an excellent monitor for professional purposes, gaming, and everyday activities. It’s an ideal choice if you’re looking for an embellished version of the standard 24-inch, IPS panel, 1080p monitor as it will offer superior color accuracy and a more sleek design than any older monitors. The SmartImage presets are also something to look forward to, although most monitors with such optimized picture modes rarely impress, the features of the Philips 245C7QJSB seem quite promising. Overall, the Philips 245C7QJSB will offer you a great viewing experience for a reasonable price with some extra features and an awesome ultra-thin design.

Specifications
22 Inches Screen (21.5 Viewable)
1920×1080 Resolution
TN Panel
16:9 Aspect Ratio
60Hz
2ms Response Time
Ports: HDMI, VGA, DVI-D
Other Ports: Audio Line-Out, Audio Line-In
Built-in Speakers: 2x2W
Brightness: 250cd/m2
Contrast: 1000:1
Dynamic Contrast: 50,000,000:1
Pixel Pitch: 0.248mm
Performance
What distinguishes the ViewSonic VX2252MH the most from other budget monitors at this price point is it’s quick response time. The TN panel of this gaming monitor allows for the rapid 2ms response time, which is a common factor for such panels. Although TN panel monitors provide rather poor viewing angles of around 170 degrees, that is not the case with this monitor as it boasts the impeccable viewing angles of 178 degrees both horizontal and vertical.

Such viewing angles are a common trait of IPS and VA panel monitors besides the better color production than the TN. Nevertheless, the ViewSonic VX2252MH provides you with a rare possibility of quick response time in combination with excellent viewing angles. The response time of 2ms will eliminate ghosting of fast moving objects in the everyday use and in video games due to the quick pixel transition time between one shade of gray into the other.

Features
The main feature of the ViewSonic VX2252MH is the Game Mode. This feature brightens up the dark areas in video games in order to provide you with a better visibility. By pressing the up arrow OSD button on the monitor, you can quickly enable or disable this feature. The Game Mode is particularly useful in very dark video games or when playing FPS games as once the night comes in-game, you will have an enhanced vision, giving you the edge over your opponents.

The other OSD buttons include the down arrow key which is a shortcut for the Auto Adjust feature, the menu button, a button for swapping between source inputs, and a power button. The LED power light shines in a blue color when the ViewSonic VX2252MH is on, and in an orange color when it’s in the standby mode.

In the OSD menu, besides the usual adjustable parameters such as brightness, contrast, and gamma, you will be able to manually configure color levels of the red, blue, and green colors under the Color Adjust section of the menu. Other available settings include volume adjustments, OSD menu settings, and several color temperature presets.

Design

The design of the ViewSonic VX2252MH features a glossy black cabinet with a matte 3H screen coating which eliminates the sunlight reflection. The monitor is VESA mount compatible with 100 x 100mm pattern so that you may easily install it on the wall or a mounting arm. When it comes to the ergonomics, only the screen can be tilted by 20 degrees backward. Other functionalities such as height adjustment, swivel, and pivot aren’t possible.

Connectivity
As far as the connectivity is concerned, the ViewSonic VX2252MH features an HDMI, a VGA, and a DVI-D port. It also has an audio line-out and an audio line-in port as well as the built-in speakers of 2W. The speakers aren’t exceptionally good, but they are nice to have around as the backup speakers or if you have no other options.

Price
Currently (February 2017), the ViewSonic VX2252MH can be bought for around $115 which is quite an appealing price considering the monitor’s features and performance. For a few additional bucks, you can get a version of this monitor with the DisplayPort and the FreeSync technology, the ViewSonic VX2257-MHD monitor. If you have a compatible AMD graphics card with FreeSync, the second version will significantly improve your gameplay experience.

Conclusion
With the ViewSonic VX2252MH, you’ll be getting some very useful features which are usually found in more expensive monitors, such as the Game Mode’s enhancement in dark scenes and quick response time. Moreover, the excellent viewing angles, built-in speakers, and a crisp image quality make it a great monitor for everyday multimedia use as well. The fact that this monitor is cheap yet reliable and has diverse connectivity options make it a great choice for multi-display setups. All in all, the ViewSonic VX2252MH offers a surprisingly good performance and amazing features for a budget monitor and it’s worth every penny.

Moreover, the LG 31MU97-B boasts several exclusive and convenient features that will further improve the experience for the professional designers, photographers, and alike.

Specifications
31 Inches Screen
4096×2160 Resolution
10-bit IPS Panel
17:9 Aspect Ratio
60Hz
5ms Response Time
Ports: 2x HDMI 1.4, DisplayPort
Other Ports: Headphones Jack, 4x USB 3.0
Built-in Speakers: 2x5W
Brightness: 320cd/m2
Contrast: 1000:1
Pixel Pitch: 0.1675 mm
Performance
The LG 31MU97-B features a 10-bit IPS panel which delivers highly accurate and consistent colors; in fact, it delivers 64 times more colors than an 8-bit IPS panel which is over 1 billion more colors. Such color accuracy cannot be achieved by VA, TN, and other panels. The monitor is factory calibrated and covers over 99.5% of the Adobe RGB, 99% of the sRGB, and 97% of the DCI-P3 color spaces. The DCI-P3 color space is 25% wider than the sRGB and it’s used by all digital cinema projectors in its entire range.

The IPS panel of the LG 31MU97-B also ensures excellent viewing angles which amount to 178 degrees both horizontal and vertical allowing you to enjoy pristine picture quality at almost any angle. Furthermore, it delivers response time of 5ms which is fast enough to eliminate ghosting of fast moving objects in the everyday use of the computer, and even in some fast-paced video games.

The wider resolution than the more common UHD 4K resolution monitors also provides you with more horizontal space as the aspect ratio of the LG 31MU97-B amounts to 17:9. The 4K resolution on a 31-inch screen results in crisp and brilliant image quality which will along the extra horizontal space provide you with a lot of available work space for all your multi-tasking activities. The LG 31MU97-B allows you to further utilize all that space with various convenient and practical features.

Features
One of the most useful features for the professional uses is the Dual Color Space. This feature allows you to have the same picture in two different color spaces side by side. For instance, you could have the same picture in the Adobe RGB color space if you wish to see how it would look once printed, and right next to it in the sRGB mode to see how it would look on a website. Both color spaces are factory calibrated and will remain so due to the Total Color Management feature.

Another great feature of this professional and photo editing monitor is the Screen Split which allows its users to split the screen into various different layout panels. You can then stick a certain application to a certain part of your screen where it will stay fixed, allowing you to multitask through all of your open applications unhindered.

The OSD menu is very user-friendly and easily navigatable with the joystick that’s placed below the screen. In the OSD menu, you’ll have access to all the standard picture settings such as the brightness, contrast, input source selection, gamma, color temperature, different aspect ratios, and sharpness.

Additionally, you can manually adjust color, saturation, and hue levels of the red, green, blue, magenta, cyan, and yellow colors. Besides these settings, you will also be able to adjust the amount of the Black Level feature which increases the visibility of dark images, select four different speed settings for the response time, and use the Picture by Picture mode. The first two settings are more useful for gaming.

Lastly, you will be able to swap between various different picture mode presets including sRGB, Adobe RGB, DCI-P3, Calibration1, Calibration2, DCM Sim, and Custom. The Calibration1 and 2 presets adjust to the last or the previously calibrated screen. The first three modes use their corresponding color space calibrations, and the DCM Sim mode offers you a unique ability to view X-ray images although only for educations purposes, not medical.

Design

The LG 31MU97-B features a modern, matte-black design which will appeal to the professionals. More importantly, the screen is covered with an advanced anti-glare material for full protection for the sunlight reflection. This monitor offers extensive ergonomics abilities including height adjustment by 140 millimeters, tilt by 20 degrees, and pivot function by 90 degrees. Moreover, the monitor is VESA mount compatible so you can easily install it on a wall or a mounting arm.

Connectivity
When it comes to connectivity, the LG 31MU97-B offers two HDMI 1.4 ports, a DisplayPort, a miniDisplayPort, an audio line-out, and four USB3.0 ports. The HDMI ports can support only up to 30Hz, so if you wish to achieve the maximum 60Hz refresh rate of the monitor, you will need to use the DisplayPort. One of the USB 3.0 ports is upstream and needs to be connected to the computer in order for other three ports to function.

The LG31MU97-B also features built-in speakers. The MaxxAudio speaker technology offers two 5W speakers that will deliver a rather good sound quality for the built-in speakers. Moreover, you will be able to adjust the equalizer in the OSD settings with options such as the bass, treble, 3D effect, and volume among other things.

Price
At the time of writing, the LG 31MU97-B is available for around $950. As this is one of the more affordable DCI 4K monitors, and as it offers quite a lot exclusive features and brilliant specifications and image quality, it is well worth its money if you’re a professional or aspiring designer or video editor. This is because a good gaming monitor will provide you with better responsiveness, better mobility, better image quality and a better color reproduction than TVs. In most cases, a monitor will improve your gaming experience when playing on a console. So now the good question remains: what is the best gaming monitor for PS4 and Xbox one?
The process of selecting a gaming monitor for console gaming can be a difficult task for many people due to the fact that there are so many monitors out there and a monitor has so many specs that you need to check and compare to. There a lot of different monitor brands, models and a variety of different specifications that need to be considered. Some of these specifications include response time, resolution, refresh rate, connectivity, panel type and screen size.
We have done all the hard work for you and researched the monitor market to find the best monitor for PS4 and Xbox One 2016. The monitors that we have selected below are favored by professional next-gen console gamers and there are a lot of positive reviews and feedback about them on Reddit, Amazon and by other reviewers. Following the table is a closer look at each highlighted monitor and lastly is a buying guide for console monitors, in case you wanted to scour the market yourself.

The list at the top of this page is updated as of March 2017 and contains the best monitors for PS4 and XBOX One, including PS4 Pro and XBOX One S (Project Scorpio). You can also comfortably use the first mentioned console gaming monitors for PS4 Pro and XBOX One S, but have in mind that 4K will be supported for these consoles so you might want to have a look at a 4K monitor instead, which is the last monitor on the list.

PS4 and XBOX One Gaming Monitor Recommendations
In the following sections, we will dive deeper into each monitor found on the table above. We’ll describe the specs shortly and why they are awesome for console gaming. The BenQ monitors are 60Hz at the native resolution (1080p or Full HD) and not 75Hz as many websites otherwise suggest.

BenQ RL2240HE: 21.5-inch LED Console Gaming Monitor
The BenQ RL2240HE is a small 21-inch monitor that we recommend for console users. If you are looking for a small monitor for PS4 and Xbox One then this one is certainly the one to go for. With a 1080p resolution, 60Hz refresh rate and only 1ms response time, you can’t go wrong in town.

Keep in mind that this monitor does not have speakers, so you will need that as well if you plan on buying this awesome Full HD console gaming monitor.

BenQ RL2455HM: 24-inch Monitor for PS4 and Xbox One
BenQ manages to create some great monitors and the BenQ RL2455HM is one of them. This is one the best monitors for consoles out there right now. A 1ms response time is included and a 60Hz refresh rate, which is what you will want if you only wish to be using the monitor for console gaming. The resolution is also 1920×1080, which is our recommendation as well and with a screen size of 24-inches, it makes this monitor one of the best screens for console gaming out there. This monitor has received over 1500 reviews on Amazon.com and an average of 4,6/5 stars.

BenQ RL2460HT: 24-inch 1080p 1ms PS4 and Xbox One Monitor
The BenQ RL2460HT has built-in presets for various purposes and the option for adding even more. It even has a so-called Fighting Mode preset. Furthermore, built in speakers are included (2x 2W) as well. This LED gaming monitor is essentially a more feature-rich version of the RL2455HM. Additional features that this monitor has and that the RL2455Hm doesn’t is BenQ Blue Light technology, a height-adjustale stand and the Fighting Mode preset.

Connection options include two HDMI ports, one DVI port and one VGA connector (D-sub). It also has a HDMI out connector. We find this monitor to be the best console gaming monitor out there right now.

BenQ RL2755HM: 27-inch Full HD 1ms Gaming Monitor for PS4, PS3, Xbox 360 and Xbox One
If you are looking for a 27-inch screen to play your favorite console games on then our top recommendation is the BenQ RL2755HM. The beautiful 27-inch screen is designed with console gaming in mind and features a 1ms response time. Furthermore, BenQ Low Blue Light technology is supported. This useful feature will filter our harmful blue light coming out from your monitor, and thus protecting your eyes. It also helps against insomnia as blue light tricks our brain into thinking that it’s daytime.

The maximum resolution is 1080p and the stand is height-adjustable. This monitor also has the inbuilt Fighting Mode preset.

Acer R240HY: 24-inch 1080p IPS All-Around Popular PS4/Xbox One Monitor
The Acer R240HY is definitely one of the best value-for-money monitors out there that you can invest in right now. This beautiful monitor has a thin bezel (edge) and a beautiful IPS panel, which makes the picture quality when gaming much better. We at 144Hz monitors dot com absolutely love this monitor! The colors will be more vibrant and beautiful, and the viewing angles will be superior to its TN panel counterparts. The downside is the specified 4ms GtG response time, but that’s the best that IPS panels can produce right now.

You can use the Acer R240HY for other stuff than gaming on your console as well, as you can connect your PC as well and enjoy the beautiful colors on both platforms. The maximum supported resolution is 1080p (1920 x 1080 or Full HD) and the refresh rate is 60Hz, which is what you’ll want for pure console gaming anyway.

BenQ XL2411Z: 144Hz 1ms Console and PC Gaming Monitor
If you want a great monitor that you can use for both your console (PS4 or Xbox 1) and your PC, then we highly recommend the BenQ XL2411Z. It is used by many pro gamers in both the console and PC gaming industry. Competitive PC gaming players can not live without the added benefits of the 144Hz refresh rate and with its lightning fast response time, signal delay and overall input lag, the BenQ XL2411Z is favored by most people who are playing on both a PC and a console, such as the Playstation 4 and the XBOX One.

We definitely recommend this monitor as the go-to monitor for both PC and console gaming.

Samsung U28E590D: 28-inch 4K Monitor for PS4 Pro and Xbox One S
If you’re looking for the best monitor for the next gen consoles in 2016, you will want a 4K monitor to enjoy the full advantages. These new consoles support 4K playback from streaming services like Netflix, HBO, Amazon and Viaplay, and on top of that, the Xbox One S has an in-built Ultra HD 4K Bluray-player in it. Gaming is just upscaled to 4K at 60Hz, but still looks amazing nonetheless.

Whatever you do, don’t buy a 1440p monitor as the resolution will get downscaled to 1080p anyways (at least on PS4 Pro). Furthermore, a HDMI 2.0a/b port is neccesary for HDR content. HDMI 1.4 supports 30Hz at 4K UHD resolution and HDMI 2.0 supports 60Hz at 4K UHD resolution.

HDR is also supported by the PS4 Pro and XBOX One S, but this monitor doesn’t support it. HDR monitors are very rare as of the end of 2016. This will also be a future-proof console gaming monitor, as the upcoming Playstation 4 Neo (PS4 Neo) and Xbox Scorpio will support 4K as well.

The Samsung U28E590D works at 30Hz @ 4K resolution. If you want 60Hz, which we highly recommend by the way, you should consider the LG 27UD68, which is the best 4K 60Hz monitor for PS4 Pro since it features a HDMI 2.0 port.

Console Gaming Monitor Buyer’s Guide
As promised, we will now introduce some technical specifications for monitors that you need to take into consideration when choosing the next monitor for your console. You need to know these things when you’re choosing your next monitor for PS4 and Xbox One if want to make a good pick out all the different options. You’re here because you want the best value for your money right?

Screen Size

The most popular monitor screen size among console games and PC gamers alike is 24-inches. In general, any screen size above 22-inches (21.5-inches is OK too) is fine and bigger is also usually better, so if you have the budget, a 27-inch monitor will do well. You should keep viewing distance in mind when choosing your next console gaming monitor so be sure to pick a large enough size to justify the viewing distance.

Resolution

ps4 xbox one resolution 1080p full hd 900p

Most games run at 1080p maximum on the PS4 and on the Xbox One. A relatively large portion of Xbox One games run at 900p resolution, but that’s to ensure good performance, which is what you want anyway. So by these rules, you should get a 1920 x 1080 resolution monitor if you want a good console monitor. You don’t need to buy a monitor with a higher resolution than FHD (Full HD or 1080p) because the games will not run at that resolution anyway. Furthermore, monitors are not as big as televisions so the image quality will be better at this size for gaming and multimedia tasks such as watching movies or series. Also make sure that you don’t get an ultrawide monitor (21:9 aspect ratio) for console gaming!

Response time

If you are planning on getting a gaming monitor for console gaming, then you should aim for one that has a low response time, and even more importantly, low input lag. Unfortunately, monitor manufacturers do not specify the input lag, only the response time. Speaking of response times, you should preferably get a monitor with 1ms response time if it has a TN panel and 4ms response time if it has an IPS panel. Monitors with low response times are cheap these days and they are very good for gaming since a low response time combats so-called ghosting effects.

Refresh rate

Unfortunately, most console games won’t get anywhere above 60Hz, so you will not see any added benefits of having a 144Hz monitor like high-end PC gaming monitors have. Theoretically, it can be done yes, but it will cost you more money in the end. Therefore, a 60Hz monitor is fine enough for console gaming exclusively. The only time it is worth getting a 144Hz monitor over a 60Hz monitor is when you are using the monitor for both console and PC gaming. Then we definitely recommend a 144Hz monitor as it will refresh the image on the screen more than twice and often, hence making the gaming experience much smoother. So all in all, a high refresh rate will not have impact on your gaming experience on choosing the best console monitor.

Connectivity

HDMI ps4 xbox one resolution fps

A good monitor for PS4 and Xbox One should have at least one HDMI port. This is because both the Playstation 4 and XBOX ONE require an HDMI port in your monitor or TV so that they can be connected. Most monitors out there have multiple input ports so you can also connect your computer if you would like to. These ports include DisplayPort, DVI and VGA ports, so it’s certainly a plus if a certain monitor of your interest has them.

Panel Type

The panel type is an important aspect of choosing the best monitor for PS4 and Xbox One 2016. For console gaming and fast responsiveness, a TN panel is preferred for most consumers. If you, on the other hand, prefer greater image quality and viewing angles, you should get a monitor with IPS panel instead. It’s completely up to you as a personal decision what panel you prefer if you wish to buy the best console gaming monitor.

Features

All the BenQ monitors that we have listed in this list of the best monitors for PS4 and XBOX One have a feature called BenQ Black eQualizr and ZeroFlicker. BenQ Black eQualizer is a nice handy feature to have since it highlights black areas in the screen and lightens them up in real-time. The BenQ ZeroFlicker technology is essentially a de-flickering backlight circuit controller, which will result in a flicker-free monitor that helps against eyestrain and headaches.

Yes, this monitor can do wonders for letting your peers know just how seriously you take your gaming experience. Now let’s get down to the nuts and bolts of the Viotek GN32C and what it can do for you.

Specifications
32 Inches Screen (Curved)
1920×1080 Resolution
VA Panel
16:9 Aspect Ratio
144Hz
4ms Response Time
AMD FreeSync Technology
Ports: DisplayPort, Dual-Link DVI, HDMI
Brightness: 300 cd/m2
Dynamic Contrast: 20M:1
Performance
The Viotek GN32C monitor uses a 16:9, 20,000,000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio (DCR) for an optimal viewing experience. And when we say optimal, we mean a viewing experience that will have you captivated looking at the screen for hours to an end; It is that good!

It also uses the industry standard widescreen format that, when coupled with a dynamic contrast, will enhance all colors in order to create a superb, if not unexpected, cinematic feel. The Brightness here is 300cd/m2, so you will have no issues whatsoever in seeing what you are doing.

Also sporting the AMD FreeSync technology, 144Hz refresh rate, and the FPS/RTS pre-calibrated presets, the Viotek GN32C computer monitor is superb for creating a dynamic and state-of-the-art refresh rate that is optimized for all of you first-person shooters and real-time strategists out there. The reduction of lag time and screen tearing that this technology offers is impressive, to say the least. The real-time feel of your gaming experiences will be significantly enhanced with the Freesync technology found here thanks to the synchronized refresh rate between your compatible AMD graphics card and the monitor.

Features
Pixel resolution is a feature that most gamers look for and at before even thinking of anything else a gaming system has to offer. This defines the clarity of both moving and still pictures and, with the movements of the players in a game being of the utmost importance, the clarity of images can be a deal breaker.

The 1920x1080p resolution found here though is a good match for the 32” screen and its 1800mm curvature. Much thought was put into these specifications and how well they would work together. The end result is a sharp, clear picture that can be viewed easily from any angle.

Perhaps the most important feature that a serious gamer looks for though is the output of Blue Light. This is a part of the visuals that come with the territory, but it can put a real strain on your eyes after a few hours of game time. The low blue light this monitor offers will greatly reduce the strain on your eyes.

Straining your eyes will lead to fatigue on your part and this will reduce the amount of quality gaming time you can enjoy. So whether you are right there at the enemy lines or mining for minerals in Battlefield or Starcraft II, you know you will not have to worry about eye strain and fatigue here. You don’t expect your players to get fatigued, so you shouldn’t be either.

Design

The curved feature of this monitor, with the radius measuring in at 1800 mm will give you and your friends a cinematic feel unrivaled by all of the competition out there. This design technology may not be brand-spanking new, but it is a monitor option you do not want to overlook because it will add to the overall realistic look and feel of your gaming and/or movie watching experience. There will always be discussions about whether curved or flat screens are better, but ever since this option became available, more and more gamers swear by it.

Connectivity
The Viotek monitors will support and strengthen all of the major types of connections you need, including the Dual-Link DVI, HDMI, (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) and DP1 cables. With technology what it is today, this is all standard fare, connectivity wise. The cables are made of a high-quality material to ensure a long life for you, the serious gamer.

Conclusion
So for all you serious gamers out there, the Viotek GN32C is the monitor you have been looking for. It has the connectivity and speed you need, the design you have come to expect in a state-of-the-art system and a price tag you can well afford. At the moment (March 2017), the Viotek GN32C is available for around $150; This is a really good price for a really good, quality product.

Samsung S22F350 Review: Budget 22-Inch Monitor

Introduction
Gamers and computer users come in all shapes and sizes, from the novice user to the seriously advanced gamer who has relied on a capable monitor since the days of Pong. The latter already knows what they need/want in a monitor and that the Samsung S22F350 is geared towards novices. Capable, functional, reliable and affordable sum up this monitor quite nicely. This is exactly what the new or casual user needs, an affordable yet remarkable gaming monitor.

Specifications
22 Inches Screen (21.5 Viewable)
1920×1080 Resolution
TN Panel
16:9 Aspect Ratio
60Hz
5ms Response Time
Ports: HDMI, VGA
Brightness: 200cd/m2
Contrast: 1,000:1
Performance
There are no bells and whistles here with the 22” model. There are no internal speakers or speaker ports, the 1920 x 1080 resolution is standard fare, 1000:1 contrast ratio is comfortable to look at and it supports 16.7 million colors. If tilting is an option that you want, pay close attention to the specifications before you make your purchase. The 22” model does tilt, but others sizes may not.

This monitor has been popular ever since it was released. This speaks to the reliability of the monitor and the fact that it delivers what it says it will. It may not have a lot to offer, but what it does offer to you, it gives you. There are no surprises here. It also does not hurt that the price tag is very reasonable.

With the overwhelming popularity of X-boxes with their numerous functions and capabilities, you will be happy to know that this monitor is X-box compatible as well as compatible with any modern keyboard. Just to be clear, there are many functions that can be accomplished by hooking up the monitor to either of those devices, but those many functions will be limited by the specifications of the monitor itself. For example, on a more advanced system, there will be virtually no blur or lag or shadow with the sudden and fast movements of characters during a game due to the quick 5ms response time.

Features
This is a basic monitor that supports basic games just fine. When the time comes that you “level up” is your all-around gaming skills, you will want to level up your monitor as well. Two options that are good for any level, though, is the blue light and auto shut down. Out of the box, this monitor was made to shut itself off after a certain period of inactivity. If you go into the settings, you can disable that feature. Also out of the box, the lighting of the monitor is standard.

Also in the settings is an option for you to turn on the low blue light option. This is a great option to have if you anticipate spending hours on end looking at the screen. Low blue light puts less strain on your eyes. High strain will leave your eyes fatigued and that is not a good thing. So the low blue light option is a good one to have. Moreover, the Samsung S22F350 also features the Eco-Saving Plus feature which automatically dims the brightness in order to save energy.

Design

The appearance of the Samsung S22F350 features a glossy black cabinet with only a 10mm slim design. The bezel is around 0.5-inches thick but it still makes the monitor look modern and sleek. It is VESA mount compatible with the 75 x 75mm pattern allowing you to easily install it on the wall or a mounting arm. As far as ergonomics are concerned, only the screen of the monitor can be tilted by -2, 22 degrees.

Connectivity
Most of the reviews that you may read for this monitor will show you that people are surprised when they find out that the HDMI cord comes with it. You will not have to go out and buy your own. This is not exactly a feature of the monitor itself, but more like an added bonus. A customer service feature if you will. Some would say that it compensates for the fact that the screen has limited angle viewing, and that is fine, but the HDMI and VGA cables come with the package.

Price
The Samsung S22F350 is currently (March 2017) available for only $100. The sleek design, practical features, and the exceptionally good performance make it of great merit for the price. This monitor is also available as a 19-inch version, the Samsung S19F350, for an even more affordable price of $80. There are bigger models as well including a 24-inch, a 27-inch, and a 32-inch, all of which are available at an affordable price. You can check them at the following links. The Samsung S24F350, the Samsung S27F350, and the Samsung S32F350.

Conclusion
The Samsung S22F350 is a beauteous budget monitor that is worth much more than it costs. The crisp Full HD 1080p image quality and the quick 5ms response time make it ideal for gaming as video games will run smoothly yet overflow with details. The sleek design, eyesight-friendly features, and power efficiency make it great for the everyday multimedia use as well. For the amount of money that this monitor requires, you can’t make a wrong choice by purchasing it.

Acer K242HYL Review: Budget IPS Monitor

Introduction
The Acer K242HYL is a sleek and slim monitor which delivers a vibrant image quality at an affordable price. It is a perfect budget monitor for gaming, everyday use, and even some beginner-level designing due to the highly accurate and consistent colors of the IPS panel. The monitor is Energy Star qualified and delivers a bright image at low power consumption of only 19W and less than 0.5W in the standby mode. In short, both the performance and image quality are surprisingly good considering the monitor’s price.

Specifications
23.8 Inches Screen
1920×1080 Resolution
16:9 Aspect Ratio
IPS Panel
60Hz
4ms Response Time
Ports: VGA, DVI, HDMI
Built-in Speakers: 2x2W
Brightness: 250 cd/m2
Contrast: 1,000:1
Dynamic Contrast: 100M:1
Pixel Pitch: 0.2745 mm
Performance
The Full HD resolution is enriched by the vibrant colors of the IPS panel. The Acer K242HYL is an ideal choice for those with a tight budget who want a beauteous monitor for high-quality 1080p gaming, immersive movie watching experience, and an outstanding performance for the all-around everyday use. The IPS panel also ensures wide viewing angles of 178 degrees which will allow you and all those in the room to enjoy watching movies without the shifting of colors when viewed from different angles.

The response time of 4ms is as good as it gets with IPS panel monitors as even the most expensive ones feature the same speed. It will eliminate ghosting and trailing of the fast moving objects in the everyday use as well as in fast-paced video games. Although even less expensive TN panel monitors have a quicker response time, the image quality and vibrancy is nowhere near to the IPS and neither are the viewing angles.

The Acer K242HYL boasts a 100,000,000:1 dynamic contrast and dubs it as the Acer Adaptive Contrast Management (ACM). It can be manually enabled and disabled in the OSD menu or automatically activated when you apply any of the pre-calibrated picture presets. These presets are a part of the Acer eColor Management feature and consist of User, ECO, Standard, Graphic, and Movie.

Features
The User preset is a configurable mode in which all of your settings will be automatically saved while the Standard mode provides you with the default settings. ECO mode saves on the power consumption, Graphic preset offers more vibrant colors and sharper details for photographs, and the Movie mode delivers great visuals with clear details. All of these modes use optimal parameters of the picture and color settings as well as best values of the dynamic contrast ratio.

The above mentioned presets can quickly be toggled and applied to the display with the monitor’s first hotkey. Other OSD buttons include shortcuts for the auto-adjustment feature, opening up the OSD menu, adjusting the volume of the built-in speakers, and swapping between the input sources. The auto-adjustment button only functions with the VGA port.

Once you open up the menu, under the Picture section, you will be able to alter the eColor feature, adjust the Low Blue Light filter, tweak brightness, contrast, and analog settings of the VGA port such as the position, clock, and focus. Furthermore, you will be able to adjust the OSD menu timeout, aspect ratio, input selection, DDC/CI, overdrive, and the ACM.

Design

The Acer K242HYL features a glossy black cabinet with a slim bezel that makes the monitor look modern and elegant. The screen of the monitor can be tilted by -5, 25 degrees and VESA mounted on the wall, but other than that, it has no more ergonomic features. The base of the monitor can be a bit wobbly, but unless you accidently run into your desk too often, it should be fine.

Connectivity
The Acer K242HYL provides plenty compatibility when it comes to the connectivity as it offers one of each: DVI, HDMI, and VGA ports. However, only a VGA cable is provided with the purchase of the monitor. There’s also an audio line-in port for the 2W built-in speakers which provide a decent sound quality, especially after considering the price of the monitor.

Price
At the moment (March 2017), the Acer K242HYL can be bought for around $150 and comes with a three-year warranty. The price is quite reasonable considering the crisp Full HD resolution, vibrant image quality of the IPS panel, quick response time, and the exclusive features. It’s one of the rare monitors that are both cheap and good.

Conclusion
The Acer K242HYL offers an amazing picture quality and performance at an affordable price. In order to have a noticeably better image and performance, you would have to purchase a 1440p monitor which is much more expensive and among other things, requires a more powerful computer gear. Therefore, the Acer K242HYL is an excellent choice for a budget monitor as it offers high-quality 1080p gaming, crisp Full HD resolution for immersive movies, beauteous slim design, plenty connectivity options, quick response time, and even a few exclusive features such as the well-optimized picture presets and the built-in speakers. All in all, the monitor both looks and performs as a more expensive monitor and once you get it, you will be set for quite some time.
